Are You Capable of Decency, Rahm Emanuel?
by Sarah Palin The newly-released mind-boggling, record-smashing $3,400,000,000,000 federal budget invites plenty of opportunity to debate the merits of incurring more and more debt that will drown the next generation of Americans. Never has it been possible to spend your way out of debt. So… let the debate begin. Included in the debate process will [...]
Spending Freeze Not Likely
by Ron Paul
Last week politicians in Washington made a few things clear about how they really feel about the state of the union. First, they are beginning to hear the growing discontent with the size and scope of government and the broken promises that keep piling up. Certain events in Massachusetts recently made that statement loud, clear and unavoidable. In the face of those events, the powers that be made the determination that some populist rhetoric was in order, and the idea of a spending freeze in Washington was proposed, albeit with several caveats.
The Precarious State of Our Union
by Peter Schiff
In this week’s much anticipated State of the Union address, President Obama again demonstrated his poor understanding of the fundamental problems that confront our nation. By following the advice of the same people who helped guide our economy to the precipice of total collapse, Obama now threatens to push it over the edge.
Is A 401k/IRA Screw Job Coming?
by Karl Denninger
Forcing people into Treasuries as an “annuity” is exactly what Social Security allegedly is. Except that Treasury stole the money that was collected in FICA taxes and spent it!
Guess what? They’ll do that here too – you’re going to “invest” in Treasuries which of course are effectively a CALL option on the future taxing ability of the government.
My Letter to the Editor
by Bruce West
Our country is tearing itself apart with conservatives and liberals adding to the issues. I am sure that it is not the majority of people who consider themselves conservative or liberal that are causing the damage, but the loudest, extremist views are being heard.
As our election comes upon us this year, many of us have already made up our mind of what the candidate should be.
Gold and Guns – The Result of Failed Democracy
by David French
In his extraordinary book Democracy: The God that Failed, Hans Hermann Hoppe points out that the process of civilization is stopped when government continually violates property rights. The natural process of civilization comes through delaying consumption, saving, and building capital. Undoing it leads to higher societal time preference.
If The Price Is Right
by Chuck Norris
At almost 80 years old, Thomas Jefferson foresaw the corruption of a federal government with too much power, when he wrote to William T. Barry in 1822, just a few years before his death: “If ever this vast country is brought under a single government, it will be one of the most extensive corruptions, indifferent and incapable of wholesome care over so wide of spread of surface.” “Wholesome care” like health care?
Keynesianism Delivers a Decade of Zero
by Ron Paul
This past week we celebrated the end of what most people agree was a decade best forgotten. New York Times columnist and leading Keynesian economist Paul Krugman called it the Big Zero in a recent column. He wrote that “there was a whole lot of nothing going on in measures of economic progress or success” which is true. However, Krugman continues to misleadingly blame the free market and supposed lack of regulation for the economic chaos.
Guns or Health Care?
by Jake Towne
“We can do without butter, but, despite all our love of peace, not without arms. One cannot shoot with butter, but with guns.”
Throughout time, governments have strong tendencies to simultaneously splurge on both domestic spending and the more sinister business of warfare. This is referred to as the “guns versus butter” economic model. “Butter” is synonymous with domestic spending, while “guns” is synonymous with military spending.
Why I Am Running For Congress
by Bruce West
I want to tell you about my Christmas. I was sitting at home watching the news with my family when the news started talking about the health care bill which passed the Senate. I was irate. My wife and kids have put up with my yelling and screaming at the television quite often this year.
I think my wife was tired of hearing it when she said “why don’t you do something about it.” I laughed to myself, there is nothing I can do to fix this mess. I was so disappointed. I started up the computer to look for the next Tea Party Event!
The Tea Party Movement Has Been Hijacked
by MJ Harris
The Glenn Beck’s and Sean Hannity’s of the Republican party have been trying to capture the momentum created by the truly independent outrage of the average American. Big government and big corporations have teamed up on both sides of the aisle and now there are people who want to profit from the backlash.
